U.S. to accept tourists vaccinated with Coronavac

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “Six vaccines authorized/approved by the FDA or listed for emergency use by the W.H.O. will meet the criteria for travel to the U.S.,” a CDC spokesperson said.

Brazilians fully vaccinated against Covid-19 were cleared to enter at least 15 countries with immunizers approved in the UK: AstraZeneca, Janssen, Moderna and Pfizer.

For those going to the United States, people who have taken Coronavac will be cleared to enter the country and will not need to comply with the isolation period.

W.H.O.-APPROVED COVID-19 VACCINES:

Pfizer/BioNTech, listed for WHO Emergency Use on December 31, 2020;
AstraZeneca, listed for WHO Emergency Use on February 16, 2021;
Janssen, listed for WHO Emergency Use on March 12, 2021;
Moderna, listed for WHO Emergency Use on April 30, 2021;
Sinopharm, listed for WHO Emergency Use on May 7, 2021;
Coronavac listed for WHO Emergency Use on June 1, 2021.

On Friday, October 8, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it would notify airlines of the vaccines that will be accepted to “help prepare their systems.” According to the CDC, additional guidance and information will be released once the requirements for the U.S. to welcome tourists are completed.

Airlines for America said it is “pleased” with the CDC’s decision to approve a list of authorized vaccines for travelers entering the United States. “We look forward to working with the administration to implement this new global vaccine and testing framework by early November 2021,” it reported.

The CDC is yet to detail the rules for exceptions, which include children who cannot yet be vaccinated, as well as for visitors from countries where the vaccines are not widely available.

COUNTRIES ALLOWING VACCINATED BRAZILIANS

A number of countries have pressured the Biden administration to accept WHO-approved vaccines, as the vaccines authorized by the U.S. regulatory agency are not widely used in all countries.

Last Thursday, the United Kingdom announced that as of next Monday, it will start accepting Brazilians who have been immunized with the 2 doses or the single dose vaccine at least 14 days ago, with no requirement to quarantine.

According to the CDC, the United States will accept fully vaccinated travelers from Great Britain, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil. In addition, travelers from Europe’s 26 Schengen countries will also be accepted. Prior to this Friday’s announcement, U.S. rules barred most non-U.S. citizens who had been to these countries in the past 14 days.
