Maduro incites uprising against US after Biden denies request to end sanctions

During broadcast on state TV, Venezuela’s ruler Nicolás Maduro, incited an uprising against the United States after President Joe Biden denied a request made by him to end the sanctions imposed on the regime.

“The working class has to stand firm in defense of the independence of the motherland […] It is the working class that has to take to the streets to tell imperialism, with a single voice, that it has had enough of sanctions, blockades, torture and persecution against Venezuela”, said Maduro, last Tuesday (17).

The statement was seen as a reaction to last week’s denial given by US President Joe Biden after Maduro called for an end to sanctions imposed on the Venezuelan regime.

“As long as Maduro and his followers continue to repress the Venezuelan people and divert resources to corrupt practices, we will continue to pressure the regime with sanctions,” the White House said in response to Maduro’s request.

Biden conditioned the easing of sanctions to the outcome of negotiations taking place between Maduro and opposition leaders in Mexico City.

“Our policy of sanctions against Venezuela remains intact. We will continue to impose sanctions on Venezuela to support the return to democracy,” said the Biden administration.
