Lula da Silva raises the tone with the military

After stating that the Armed Forces are not the moderating power, President Lula da Silva said that he “has lost confidence in part of the military”.

The statement was granted to the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, which published an article on the subject, this Friday, 13.

According to the text, for the first time in history, a president rejected having military personnel in uniform as assistants of orders — who always stays by the president’s side, including in private meetings and in the presidential car.

Instead, Lula preferred a “more trustworthy” person.

“When I regain confidence, I return to normality”, said Lula da Silva, when asked by Estadão if he felt “threatened” by the military.

The president said, during a breakfast with journalists, that he would hand over the position to the security guards who have been working with him since 2010.

Lula da Silva cited the “death threats” made by the military to PT supporters as the reason for his distrust.

Lula da Silva’s statements about the military reinforced the dissatisfaction and rejection of the president in the Army, Navy and Air Force summits, according to Estadão.

The interpretation in the military circles is that Lula da Silva escalated the tension.
