Hashtag “#MaiaGolpista” Ranks Second on Twitter’s Most Quoted

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The repercussions of the meeting between the president of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, and Spanish authorities to discuss “parliamentarianism”, among other issues, is yielding the politician an avalanche of criticism, among them that of a “coup plotter”.

As ‘Opinión Crítica’ reported earlier, President Bolsonaro’s allies released a screen print that featured a tweet reportedly published by the Spanish embassy in Brazil, confirming Maia’s meeting with Spanish authorities to discuss the matter.

In the country’s current climate, with tension between the governmental branches, and particularly between the Planalto and Congress, the issue of “parliamentarianism” in an official meeting sounded like a potential parliamentary coup plot against Jair Bolsonaro.

“Congress wants to change the Constitution (system of government) through the budget law and the president of @camaradeputados (@chamberofdeputies) @RodrigoMaia travels the world meeting with foreign officials posing as Head of State”, criticized Deputy Marco Feliciano on his social media.

As a result of this distrustful atmosphere, the hashtag “MaiaGolpista” (MaiaCoupPlotter) was raised by Bolsonaro’s supporters, ranking second place on Twitter’s top trends on Friday, February 28th. This is a demonstration of strength of the population allied to the administration.

“In a country where the judiciary wants to legislate, where the legislature wants to govern, we could only expect that the president @RodrigoMaia would discuss parliamentarianism with the Spaniards. Now all that’s left is to bring down the executive. All that remains is to find out: How? #Dia15PorBolsonaro (#Day15thForBolsonaro),” wrote Deputy Carla Zambelli.
