Inaugural parade of Carnaval 2022 to be held in Uruguay

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Uruguay‘s capital Montevideo reported the realization of the inaugural parade of Carnaval 2022, the main popular festival of Uruguay, on Thursday, January 20, in the Parque Rodó to facilitate the implementation and enforcement of Covid-19 regulations.

The event started at 8 PM (local time) with 50 artistic performances and a limited capacity of 2,800 people.

The event, on this occasion, abandoned its usual venue on Avenida 18 de Julio, Montevideo’s most important promenade, since the capital’s City Hall and the Confederation of Directors of Carnaval Groups (Daecpu) chose Parque Rodó to guarantee the conditions to fulfill sanitary measures.

This year’s festivity was short, with a time limit of 35 minutes for each group to perform its corresponding route; the public remained seated and wore masks during the parade.

On the other hand, the vaccination card was not compulsory, except in the Museo del Carnaval and Canario Luna, which only admitted vaccinated personnel.

Uruguay is currently going through the third wave of Covid-19, reporting 11,714 positive cases and 86,528 active cases in the country, of which 83 people are in intensive care units.
