RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Already one of the favorites to receive the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar commented on the inspiration behind “Pain and Glory”, his new film, and cited Brazil in a conversation with journalists.
“I consider myself a French-Spanish film-maker, but I am particularly bonded to Brazilian culture. I listen to Brazilian music during creative moments,” he said.
“I can so much identify with it that even before having been there, it already had influenced me by its beauty.”
He also spoke about the current politics of the country. “I regret that today it is going through such bad times,” and he was applauded.
