Vance Joy is the stage name for thirty-year-old James Gabriel Keogh (he claims that people found his real name hard to pronounce). The name Vance Joy is taken from ‘Bliss,’ the first novel by Australian writer Peter Carey. Before becoming a musician, Joy worked as a gardener and was a promising player in the sport of ‘Aussie Rules’ Australian football.

With the release of the single, ‘Riptide’ in 2013, Joy quickly gained recognition as a promising name for the burgeoning indie-folk or ‘neofolk’ scene, following on from the successes of bands such as the UK’s Mumford & Sons.

The following year, his debut album, ‘Dream Yor Life Away’ sold over 2 million copies and took the artist’s music way beyond his native Australia. He began touring, playing festivals, and he even was chosen as the opening act for Taylor Swift’s 1989 world tour.

After four years since his debut release, he is now back touring his new album. Rio-based fans of pop music who recently saw Harry Styles, The Kooks, or Niall Horan, will be in for a treat with the Australian singer sure to play his best-known hits such as, ‘Riptide,’ ‘Mess is Mine,’ and ‘Fire and the Flood,’ as well as debuting new material such as ‘Saturday Sun,’ ‘We’re Going Home,’ and ‘Lay It On Me.’
