Audio Rebel Hosts First Edition of Convida Series March 14th – 20th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Beginning Monday, March 14th, Audio Rebel in Botafogo will host the first edition of its Convida series. With cultural producer Chico Dub serving as curator for the inaugural edition, the series will feature performances of contemporary music, free improvisation, sound installations, dance performances and a discussion with Brazilian and international artists.

Kicking off the series on yesterday, the Abstrai Ensemble performed live. Created 2005, the Abstrai Ensemble is known for combining traditional instruments including vocals, flute, sax, clarinet, guitar, piano, violin, cello, double bass and percussion with new technologies.

Performing next, tonight on Tuesday, March 15th, will be the Numduo with electric bassist Bruna Lobo and Felipe Zenicola bassist of the Chinese Cookie Poets, and Somnomono with visual artists Paulo Caetano and Julia Malafaia.

Then on Wednesday, March 16th, improvisational duo, Beam Splitter with Norwegian musician Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø and Chinese-American musician Audrey Chen will perform. Additionally playing during the night will be Swiss improvisational musician Thomas Rohrer.

On Thursday, March 17th German musician and sound artist NikoLFO will present the “Hanz Memorial Performance” and German artist, Andrea Lange, aka AA.LL, will present experimental sound collages.

On Friday, March 18th performance artist Marcia Nemer Jentzsch will present “Estudo de Paisagem” (Landscape Study) and Luisa Puterman will present “Sonorização” (Sound). Next on Saturday, March 19th, Audio Rebel will host “Negativos e Positivos” (Negatives and Positives) a book preview and photo exhibition featuring the works of Mauricio Valladares. Additionally, a discussion lead by artists Raul Mourão and Chris Calvet will take place during the night.

To close out the series, the venue with present a free performance of Musicircus, a 1967 concept performance composition by pioneering American composer, artist, and music theorist John Cage.

All events of the debut edition of the Audio Rebel Convida series will be R$20 entrance fee and begin at 8PM with the exception of the Musicircus performance, which will begin at 6PM and by free entry. the For more information, about the series seethe Facebook event page.
