RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Data collected by ValeCard, a company specialized in fleet management solutions, show that the cheapest gasoline in the city can be found in the poor Catumbi neighborhood, at R$4.61 per liter. The upscale Urca neighborhood offers the most expensive fuel, at R$5.25.
According to ValeCard, in addition to Urca, two other neighborhoods in the south zone of the capital present high prices. In Flamengo, a liter of gasoline costs R$5.21 and is R$5.17 in Lagoa.
In the city’s west zone, in the neighborhood of Tanque, the price of fuel is also one of the lowest, R$4.63, followed by Cascadura, in the north zone, where gasoline costs R$4.65.
The variation in the price per liter of gasoline between the most expensive and the cheapest neighborhood is around 14 percent. The data show that Rio de Janeiro state recorded the highest average per liter price at pumps in the country’s Southeast region, R$4.95.
