This project was designed and presented in a partnership between the Baía Viva Movement, Morena (Paquetá Island Residents Association) and the Oceanography School of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), which focuses on the development of teaching, research and university extension areas, and is under consideration by the State Secretariat of Science and Technology (SECTI).

The Universidade do Mar relies on the institutional support of 20 departments and laboratories of several public and private universities and scientific institutions, such as the UERJ (Rio de Janeiro State University), UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), UFF (Fluminense Federal University), FIOCRUZ (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation), among others. The State Prosecutor’s Office (GAEMA) also supports the initiative.

The concept was introduced during the Paquetá Literary Festival (FLIPA), in November last year.
