RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The victim lived in the Pavão-Pavãozinho favela and sold fruit in the region. The suspect of having dumped the cylinder was arrested by state police officers and taken to the 13th DP (Ipanema). He was then taken to the Capital’s Homicide Police Precinct, which is investigating the case.
The suspect was identified as Venilson da Silva Sousa and, according to his family, he had mental problems, was undergoing psychological treatment and had had other similar outbreaks before.
In addition to the cylinder, the suspect tossed other objects and part of a stove out the window.
The details of the occurrence and the motives are still being ascertained. The victim has not yet been officially identified. Witnesses heard that the victim was a man known as Tronco, a resident of Pavão-Pavãozinho, who lived in the region selling fruit.
The street was closed between Miguel Lemos and Djalma Ulrich streets for forensic work around 4:50 PM, according to the City Hall Operations Center (COR).
