Araruama City Councilor Killed With Seven Shots in Rio de Janeiro State

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Councilor Ciraldo Fernandes da Silva, 57 years old, was murdered last night, September 8th, with seven shots. He was a member of the city council in Araruama, in the Lakes Region of Rio de Janeiro State.

According to ‘Disque Denúncia’ (“Call In Crimes”), a non-governmental service that assists Rio’s security officials in the search for information on criminal activities, he was at a bingo, near the Amendoeira bar in Araruama, when, around 7:25 PM, two armed men drove by firing.

Also according to Disque Denúncia, the Araruama civil police precinct is investigating whether the death was a retaliation by criminals involved in the sale of drugs in the city, since Ciraldo, who also owned a construction materials store, is said to have refused to pay bribes to the criminals.
