Brazil’s August trade balance shows surplus of US$7.664 billion, up 45.76% from 2020

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s trade balance registered a surplus of US$7.664 billion in August, representing a daily average increase of 25.7% over the same period last year, according to figures released Wednesday (1) by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy.

In the first eight months of this year, the balance has reached US$52.033 billion, up 45.7% over the same period in 2020.

Exports amounted to US$27.211 billion last month. The daily average showed an increase of 49.2% compared to the same month in 2020. Imports reached US$19.547 billion, increasing by 61.1% compared to August last year.

In the year to date 2021, exports increased by US$188.859 billion, up 37.3% on a daily average basis compared to the same period of 2020. Imports amounted to US$136.826 billion, up 34.4% on the same comparative basis.

In its latest projection, the Secretariat estimates that the trade balance in 2021 should show a surplus of US$105.3 billion, made up of US$307.5 billion in exports and US$202.2 billion in imports. Trade flows would total US$509.7 billion.
