Brazil already has 7 political prisoners before Lula da Silva is even president. Expect the worst

By Camila Abdo

Since the beginning of demonstrations against the allegedly rigged elections, Moraes, who oversaw these elections, arrested state deputies, journalists, business people, the chief, councilman, and pastor.

On Monday, Dec. 26, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes ordered the arrest of journalist Oswaldo Eustáquio and Bismark Fugazza, comedian of the Hypocrites Channel, for his invention created out of thin air, named anti-democratic acts, as reported the Revista Oeste.

Currently, there are seven people arrested by order of Moraes.

Eustaquio and Bismark are accused of encouraging protests against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory in this year’s elections. Moraes’ decision was issued last week when the Federal Police began searching for the pair.

Moraes began his hunt for “propagators of his interpretation o fake news and anti-democratic acts” in 2019.

Since then, 18 people have been put behind bars. Today, there are seven Brazilian political prisoners:

Milton Baldin, a businessman;

Cacique Tserere; Indian chief

Pastor Fabiano Oliveira;

Armandinho Fontoura,

a Vitória councilman (Podemos);

Jackson Rangel, a journalist, and owner of the Folha do ES website;

as well as the state deputies for Espírito Santo, Capitão Assumção (PL) and Carlos Von (DC).

Baldin was the first to be arrested on Dec. 6, when he took part in the demonstration in front of the Army barracks in Brasilia.

Before the arrest, Baldin recorded a video calling hunters, sport shooters, and gun collectors (CACs) to join the demonstrators.

Cererê Xavante, arrested on the 12th of the same month, was accused of unlawful conduct in anti-democratic acts.

The indigenous leader has used social networks to criticize Moraes.

In addition, he has published videos questioning the security of the 2022 election, saying that “Lula was not elected”.

Pastor Fabiano was on the run for five days before being arrested by the Federal Police. He was arrested on Monday 19th. Member of the group “Soberanos da Pátria”, Fabiano was accused of attacking the “Democratic State of Law”.

Councilman Armandinho Fontoura was arrested in a PF mega-operation, triggered on Dec. 15, when he was investigated for attacks on the STF and for being part of “digital militias”.

Armandinho criticized ministers of the STF on social networks and asked for a “limit to be placed on these togaed bandits. He also said that there would be a “constitutional confrontation.

She was arrested in the same operation that Armandinho Fontoura; Jackson Rangel has, according to Moraes, “an extensive history of abuses in the exercise of freedom of the press and expression, as attacks on various other institutions.

Today under house arrest, wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, Captain Assumption and Carlos Von are prevented from using social networks and giving interviews or statements.

Captain Assumção is the target of the fake news investigation, which investigates the dissemination of alleged fraudulent news. Von is accused of anti-democratic acts and using social networks to speak against democracy.

On Sunday, Dec. 25, dozens of indigenous people protested in front of the STF, asking for the release of the cacique. They claim they have not been able to contact Cererê, who has been arrested for 13 days and want to know if he is “okay”.
