Netflix Rival Announces Entry to Brazil with Free Channels and Movies

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A new video streaming service announced its arrival in the Brazilian market. Called Pluto TV, Netflix’s competitor belongs to ViacomCBS and will offer 24 channels and movies on demand as of December 2020. The best part? It will all be free.

Funded with ads, the App will be available on cell phones, Smart TVs and the Internet.

Pluto TV will come to Brazil with movies such as Underworld, Transporter 3, Babel, Star Trek, Blue Jasmine, The Big Wedding, Blue Valentine, Burnt, Amor Bandido, Greta, Snowpiercer and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

ViacomCBS is already active in Brazil and is the company behind channels such as Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and Paramount Network.

Pluto TV is not the only one seeking to bring the good old commercials to the internet in a video streaming service. Vix Cine and TV landed in the country last week with over 1,500 hours of content in Portuguese and movies with famous names like Anitta and Bruna Marquezine.

While music streaming Apps such as Spotify are currently advertising for free use, video streaming giants Netflix, Amazon and Globoplay only offer paid subscription options. The model named freemium emerged in the gaming market and influenced industries worldwide. The video streaming giants have yet to join this trend.
