Living Close to the Ocean Is Good for Your Mental Health, Says Study

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A study published in Health & Place magazine states that mental health is better among beach lovers than inland residents.

The study analyzed data from nearly 26,000 British citizens and found that those living less than one kilometer from the ocean are 22 percent less likely to report issues such as depression and anxiety compared to those living approximately 48 kilometers from the water.

Researchers believe their study supports earlier studies that point to the benefits of access to nature for mental health.
