RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the British newspaper Metro there are a number of seemingly innocent habits that you probably have no idea may be damaging the health of your hair.

You should refrain from washing your hair every day, particularly with hot water, so as not to remove the natural fat present in the hair.

If you are experiencing excessive hair loss or have your ends dried out and damaged (even shortly after cutting your hair), then you should be aware of these bad habits:

What are you doing in the shower?

You should refrain from washing your hair every day, particularly with hot water, so as not to remove the natural fat present in the hair. Also, do not rub your hair with the towel, choose to wrap it only in the fabric and wait for it to absorb the excess water.

Sun damage

Like the skin, hair can also be negatively affected by excessive exposure to UV rays. The color can be faded (contributing to the early appearance of gray hair), the hair can become excessively dry and with split ends. Choose to use a hat or a sunscreen hair product (such as sprays or styling creams).

Tight ponytail or bun

Avoid binding your hair with elastic bands. Experts warn that such a common habit can contribute significantly to hair loss due to traction. In the most extreme cases, securing the hair may even cause baldness in the long run.

Sleeping with disheveled hair

As the Metro newspaper warns, the frizzy, dry hair and hair loss can be the result of overnight sleeping with your hair ‘crushed’ against your pillow.
