Event in Brasília Encourages Youths to Become Global Citizens

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Enrolments are now open for high school students from the Federal District to take part in the Efeito+ Oficina em Educação para Cidadania Global (Efeito+ Workshop on Education for Global Citizenship).

The meeting will take place on October 26th and will discuss with young people the significance of being a global citizen and how it is possible to contribute, easily and on a daily basis, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations (UN).

The workshop, organized by the educational NGO AFS Brazil, will feature interactive lectures and practical activities, in which participants can collaboratively form creative solutions on how to implement changes in the area where they live.

“The high school audience was chosen because AFS already works with the public and also because we made a commitment to help spread information about the SDGs to Brazilian youth,” says Bianca Mello, coordinator of Efeito+.

Local leaders working in areas related to the 17 SDGs will take part in the activities and encourage students to reflect on the issues and expand perspectives for global citizenship.

The first edition of Efeito+ took place in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, the event has had 11 editions, involving more than 700 youths, in eight Brazilian cities: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Manaus, Natal, João Pessoa, Assis (SP), Ibirité (MG), Dourados (MS).

Enrolments may be submitted until Thursday, October 24th, through the organization’s website. The free event takes place throughout the day and includes lunch for participants.
