Datafolha Poll: Majority of Brazilians Want Covid-19 Vaccination to Be Compulsory

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A Datafolha survey in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife shows that over 75 percent of respondents say they want to be vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as possible. And more than 70 percent advocate the mandatory vaccination against the disease once a safe and effective immunizer is available, according to the survey.

In these four cities, the support for vaccination and its obligation is the majority in all strata identified by the survey, which heard 1,092 voters over 16 years of age in the capital of São Paulo, 900 in Rio de Janeiro, 800 in Minas Gerais and 800 in Pernambuco on October 5th and 6th. The error margin is three percentage points in all cases.

The highest rate of those who declare they intend to be vaccinated was recorded in Belo Horizonte, where 81 percent of respondents expressed their intention, a rate similar to Rio (80 percent) and São Paulo (79 percent) and higher than Recife (75 percent). Those who say they will not be vaccinated range from 15 to 20 percent depending on the city.

The obligatory vaccination found greater support among the citizens of Rio de Janeiro (77 percent) and Belo Horizonte (76 percent), and a little less adherence among the inhabitants of Recife (73 percent) and São Paulo (72 percent) – the latter’s rejection to obligatory vaccination was 27 percent.
