The campaign was launched in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and went viral in Italy‘s social media, particularly in the region of Milan, where it was even backed by the local mayor, Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala.

It recommended that the population no longer embrace social isolation and confinement. It also praised the “miracles” worked every day by the citizens of Milan and their “significant economic results,” “because each day we are not afraid. Milan does not stop,” the video said.

Now the Milanese mayor himself, Beppe Sala, admits: “It was a mistake. No one had yet understood the power of the virus,” he told reporters on Thursday, March 26th.

Italy records over 80,000 positive cases and over 7,000 deaths. When the campaign was launched, the country counted 12 deaths.
