Uruguay offers a port with tariff preferences to Bolivia

The port authority of Uruguay and its Bolivian counterpart signed yesterday, Tuesday, an agreement for Bolivian cargo to have tariff and use preferences in the Uruguayan port of Fray Bentos on the Uruguay River.

The agreement was signed between the National Ports Administration (ANP) of Uruguay and the Administration of Port Services-Bolivia (ASP-B) at the headquarters of the Municipality of Rio Negro, whose capital is Fray Bentos, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Latin American Integration Association, Sergio Abreu.

“We want regional integration to take place in practice, where the ports play a fundamental role in the movement of goods and outgoing goods to the world in better conditions”, said the president of the ANP, Juan Curbelo.

The executive manager of ASP-B, Dante Justiniano, said that the Busch port, located in eastern Bolivia, department of Santa Cruz, will have a “transfer point” and overseas access to European markets with this agreement.

The agreement aims to promote port activity in Fray Bentos (314 kilometers northwest of Montevideo) for Bolivian import and export cargo, with preferential tariffs, storage, and infrastructure use.
