The Port of Montevideo sets a new record for container throughput in July 2023

The Montevideo Port in Uruguay achieved a new record in container movement, surpassing 60,000 during July 2023.

According to Juan Curbelo, the president of the National Port Administration, this is related to the sustained growth recently, and he noted that 2022 was a record year with 1,080,000 TEUs.

In 2023, the historical figure from 2022 is being surpassed, with 60% of this cargo being transshipment.

Even though national exports have decreased in 2023, the port’s activities have not declined.

Curbelo emphasized that Montevideo Port is becoming a regional hub that captures cargo mainly from Paraguay and southern Brazil.

He also assured that the South American country will continue to invest in port development and constant improvement in infrastructure.

In July 2023, the country’s main river terminal moved 60,416 containers.
