Fiocruz Expert: Rio de Janeiro Unprepared for Second Covid-19 Wave

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Infectologist Julio Croda, Fiocruz researcher, said that the state of Rio de Janeiro is the most concerning regarding a potential second wave of the pandemic caused by the Coronavirus.

“The case of Rio is particularly worrying because I don’t think they are adequately preparing for a second wave, nor does the population have adequate compliance [with preventive measures],” he pointed out.

According to Croda, the lack of social isolation and structural problems in the public health network may place the state on alert in case of a significant increase in new Covid-19 infections.

“Rio de Janeiro has experienced very intense health crises, with significant misappropriation of resources, and this has led to the state recording the highest lethality in the country. Rio suffered as much as Amazonas, Pará and Ceará”, emphasized the infectologist.
