In the last 24 hours, of the 6,477 samples processed, 2,058 were positive, bringing the number of infections since March 2020 to 208,655 cases.

The health portfolio also reported an increase in hospitalizations, from 2,170 patients on Saturday to 2,192 on Sunday.

However, the number of people in intensive care was reduced, dropping from 423 to 407 in the last hours.

The 1,605 recovered in the last hours bring the number of people who have overcome the coronavirus in the country to 170,802.

Paraguay began this Saturday a return to strict quarantine that will last throughout Holy Week until Easter Sunday, April 4.

The Paraguayan government adopted this measure to slow down the rate of contagion and avoid the spread of the virus throughout the country from people who travel during Easter Week, since the health system is overwhelmed by the number of hospitalizations.

However, hundreds of people traveled to other parts of the country throughout Friday, before the restrictions came into force. Citizens are only allowed to make essential movements between 5 am and 8 pm.

Essential businesses, such as pharmacies and supermarkets, will be able to operate normally during these days, while non-essential businesses and food and beverage establishments will only be able to operate with home delivery.
