RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), regional office of the World Health Organization (W.H.O.), stated on Wednesday, December 9th, that the situation of Covid-19 in Brazil is worrisome, with the health system under pressure amid the growth of cases of the disease.
The director of the organization’s Department of Diseases, Marcos Espinal, mentioned “indications” of a second wave of the novel coronavirus in the country and said it was skeptical about the prospect of complete immunization of the South American population as early as 2021.
“Those who can avoid traveling during the holidays should do so. It is much better to live through several other holidays than to have problems in this one”, said Espinal, in a press conference.
According to him, it is likely that the wearing of masks and the imposition of restrictive measures will be maintained next year.
