Covid: Brazil Registers Record Daily Number of Cases plus 1,293 New Deaths (July 22nd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Yesterday, July 22nd, Brazil posted a record number of reports of novel coronavirus infections in 24 hours. According to a survey by the media outlet consortium, the state Secretariats added 65,339 more Covid-19 diagnoses to their records between Tuesday and Wednesday.

This is the highest number ever in a single day, passing the 55,209 cases reported on June 19th. The total number of infections since the start of the pandemic in Brazil is now 2,231,871.

The data from the press consortium also show that the states have added another 1,293 deaths from the infection caused by the coronavirus between Tuesday and Wednesday, which brings the total number of victims to 82,890.

The moving average shows that Brazil registered 1,052 daily deaths over the past week. The media group has recently begun to disclose this statistic, which calculates the average number of deaths observed over the past seven days. This is the most adequate method to monitor the trend of statistics, as it balances out any abrupt variations in numbers throughout the week.

The government balance also pointed to a record

The Ministry of Health announced that it counted 67,860 new confirmed Covid-19 diagnoses in the past 24 hours, which is also a new daily notification record, passing the 54,771 patients recorded on June 19th. As a result, the total number of patients infected with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic stands at 2,227,514.

A further 1,284 deaths caused by Covid-19 were recorded in the same period. According to the federal government, the total number of deaths from the novel coronavirus infection has now reached 82,771.

The portfolio also reported 1,532,138 patients recovered from the disease. Another 612,605 are in follow-up.

Bolsonaro’s latest test for Covid-19 is positive

President Jair Bolsonaro is still infected with the coronavirus and will remain in isolation at the Alvorada Palace, the official residence of the Chief Executive. The test result was confirmed yesterday morning, July 22nd.

In isolation for nearly 14 days, the President was hoping to be healed and to return to his duties without medical restrictions later this week.

This is the third Covid-19 test that has come back positive for the President. The first result was released on July 7th, when he first detected the disease. Later, on July 15th, he took another test, and the report showed that he had not yet been cured.
