Covid-19: Brazil Records 1,054 New Deaths, 30,355 New Cases (August 21st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the past 24 hours, Brazil recorded 1,054 Covid-19 deaths and 30,355 people infected by the novel coronavirus. The data were introduced in the Ministry of Health’s daily report, released on Friday evening, August 21st.

As a result, the total number of deaths has reached 113,358. The result marked an increase of one percent over Thursday, when the panel reported 112,304 deaths.

Also according to the Ministry of Health’s update, the cumulative confirmed cases reached 3,532,330. The sum represents an increase of 0.8 percent over Thursday, when the number of people infected since the start of the pandemic stood at 3,501,975.

The Ministry’s update also reported 748,217 people in follow-up and a further 2,670,755 who have recovered.

The lethality rate (number of deaths by total cases) stood at 3.2 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 53.9. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1680.9.

The states with the highest death toll are:
1- São Paulo (28,155)
2 – Rio de Janeiro (15.202)
3 – Ceará (8,268)
4 – Pernambuco (7,335)
5 – Pará (6,037)

The federal units with the lowest number of deaths:
1 – Tocantins (556)
2 – Roraima (576)
3 – Acre (598)
4 – Amapá (627)
5 – Mato Grosso do Sul (696)

The states with the most reported cases are:

1 – São Paulo (735,960)
2 – Bahia (229,743)
3 – Rio de Janeiro (207,036)
4 – Ceará (202,999)
5 – Pará (186,646)

The states with the fewest infections to date are:

1 – Acre (23,337)
2 – Mato Grosso do Sul (40,711)
3 – Tocantins (41,848)
4 – Amapá (40,875)
5 – Roraima (41,191)
