Covid-19: Brazil Records 819 Deaths and 41,906 Cases in Past 24 Hours (October 6th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the past 24 hours, Brazil recorded 819 deaths and 41,906 new cases of the novel coronavirus. The data are available in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released by the portfolio early on Tuesday evening, October 6th.

The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic has reached 147,494. By Monday, the total stood at 146,675. Another 2,579 deaths are under investigation.

The cumulative Covid-19 cases have reached 4,969,141. Up to Monday, the Ministry of Health panel recorded 4,927,235 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There are still 468,776 patients under follow-up. So far, 4,352,871 people have recovered from the disease. This represents 87.6 percent of the total number of people infected with the virus in Brazil.

On Tuesdays, because of a backlog of notifications on weekends, the announced number of deaths and new cases is typically higher than average.

Covid-19 in the states

In the past 24 hours, the state of São Paulo recorded 270 deaths and 6,260 new cases of coronavirus. This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day since September 22nd, when the state counted 282 new deaths. The record number of deaths in a single day occurred on August 13th, when 455 deaths were computed.

As a result, the state now totals 36,490 deaths and 1,010,839 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

From the total of diagnosed cases, 888,042 people have already recovered from the disease, 111,003 of them after hospitalization.

There are 8,948 people hospitalized throughout the state with suspected or confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, 3,908 of whom in critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 43.3 percent in the state and 41.9 percent in Greater São Paulo.

Rio de Janeiro is the state with the second-highest number of Covid-19 deaths with 18,883, followed by Ceará (9,084), Pernambuco (8,356) and Minas Gerais (7,704).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (661), Acre (668), Amapá (721), Tocantins (975), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,376).
