The total number of deaths rose to 74,133, comparable to the population of the historic city of Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais. The result marked an increase of 1.7 percent in relation to Monday, July 13th, when the Ministry of Health’s balance reported a total of 72,833 deaths.

The confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic reached 1,926,824. If it were a city, it would be the 9th most populous in the country, ahead of Recife. The total was 2.2 percent higher than the 1,884,967 infections reported on Monday.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, the number recorded daily tends to be lower due to the difficulty in feeding the databases by the municipal and state secretariats. On Tuesdays, the figure is typically higher due to the updating of cases accumulated over the weekends.

According to the Ministry of Health’s update, 643,483 people are being monitored and 1,209,208 have recovered from the disease. There are still 3,928 deaths under investigation to determine if they were caused by Covid-19.

The lethality rate (number of deaths per total case number) stood at 3.8 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 35.3. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 916.9.
