Covid-19: Brazil Passes 145,000 Deaths from Pandemic (October 2nd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil beat the mark of 145,000 deaths from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. In the past 24 hours, there were 708 new records of lives lost to Covid-19, totaling 145,388. By Thursday, the total of fatal victims of the pandemic stood at 144,680. Another 2,424 deaths are under investigation.

The data are available in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released by the portfolio on Friday evening, October 2nd. The body consolidates data submitted by state Health Secretariats from across the country.

According to the update, the total of Covid-19 cases reached 4,880,523. Between Wednesday and Thursday, the health secretariats added 33,431 new positive diagnoses of the disease to the statistics. By Wednesday, the Ministry of Health’s panel had recorded 4,847,092 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (35,956), Rio de Janeiro (18,665), Ceará (9,047), Pernambuco (8,299), and Minas Gerais (7,502).

There are still 502,542 cases under follow-up. According to the Ministry of Health, another 4,232,593 people have already recovered from the disease.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (35,956), Rio de Janeiro (18,665), Ceará (9,047), Pernambuco (8,299), and Minas Gerais (7,502).

The states with the least deaths are Roraima (659), Acre (664), Amapá (713), Tocantins (957), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,326).
