Covid-19: Brazil Nears 158,000 Deaths and 5.44 Million Cases (October 27th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic has reached 157.9 Thousand. Between Monday and Tuesday, the Health Secretariats reported 549 deaths caused by the disease. On Monday the pandemic data system recorded 157,397 deaths caused by the disease. There are currently 2,379 deaths under investigation.

The number of cases of infections with the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic reached 5,439,641. In the past 24 hours, 29,787 new cases have been recorded.

The data are available in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released on Tuesday evening, October 27th. The report is based on records compiled by the State Health Secretariats and submitted to the portfolio for consolidation.

There are currently 377,649 cases under follow-up. According to the Ministry of Health, another 4,904,046 people have already recovered from the disease.

Cases and deaths are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the limited systematization and feeding of data to the Ministry’s panel by the state Secretariats during weekends. On Tuesdays the daily figures tend to rise due to the backlog of cases over the weekend reported on this day.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (38,885), Rio de Janeiro (20,292), Ceará (9,305), Minas Gerais (8,789), and Pernambuco (8,5575). The Federation Units with fewest cases are Acre (690), Roraima (691), Amapá (743), Tocantins (1,089), and Rondônia (1,448).
