Brazil sees record 3,650 new COVID-19 deaths, health ministry says (March 26th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil saw a record 3,650 new COVID-19 deaths, the Health Ministry said on Friday, with 84,245 new cases of the coronavirus.

It is the second record for daily deaths set this week as the virus continues to devastate Latin America’s largest country.

Yesterday, data from the National Council of State Health Secretaries (Conass) obtained exclusively by news site Jornal Nacional showed that 6,370 Brazilians with Covid-19 were waiting for an ICU bed in Brazil.

“It means that we are losing patients on the waiting list, who will not have a chance to access an ICU. They will simply die waiting,” said CONASS president Carlos Lula and he added, “if the health ministry does not take urgent measures very shortly, we are no longer talking about 3,000 daily deaths, we might be talking about 4,000.”
