Brazil Records 407 More Covid-19 Deaths, Nears 160,000 Total (October 31st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health confirmed another 407 deaths from complications caused by the novel coronavirus. The country totals 159,884 deaths caused by Covid-19 since the first case of the disease was recorded in the country in late February this year.

The figures are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update and were released early on Saturday evening, October 31st. The report is based on data submitted by the state Health Secretariats every 24 hours.

According to the portfolio, 18,947 positive diagnoses were counted over the past 24 hours, raising the total of confirmed cases of the disease across the country to 5,535,605.

Among the confirmed cases, 4,972,898 patients have already recovered from the disease and 402,823 are currently under follow-up.

Among those infected is Minister of Health Eduardo Pazuello. Diagnosed with the disease on October 21st, Pazuello was admitted on Friday, October 30th, to a private hospital in Brasília. Clinical tests showed that the Minister reached the hospital dehydrated.

In a note, the physicians who examined him, Ludhmila Hajar and Pedro Loretti, state that the Minister is hospitalized only to receive saline, not requiring oxygen supplementation. According to the doctors, Pazuello is in good health, but he should remain hospitalized until Sunday, November 1st, when he will be submitted to new exams.

States

In the past 24 hours, Rio Grande do Sul has confirmed another 68 deaths and 4,174 cases. However, in absolute terms, the state with the highest number of deaths since the outbreak of the disease in the country is São Paulo. In one day, the state recorded 56 deaths. This brings the total number of deaths by Covid-19 in the state to 39,311, out of a total of 1,116,127 confirmed cases of the disease.

Next come Rio de Janeiro, with 35 new deaths and a cumulative 20,600 fatalities for 309,977 cases; Ceará (16; 9,353 and 274,185, respectively); Minas Gerais ( 53; 9,015 and 358,971); Pernambuco ( 18; 8,627 and 162,893).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (692), Acre (693); Amapá (748), Tocantins (1,097), and Rondônia (1,457).
