Brazil Records 158,400 Covid-19 Deaths Since Start of Pandemic (October 28th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The update released yesterday, October 28th, by the Ministry of Health (MS) reports 28,629 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, since the report released on Tuesday. There are now 5,468,270 cases since the start of the pandemic.

In addition, 510 new deaths have been registered, totaling 158,456 fatalities. Of the total of people infected, 4,934,548 (90.2 percent) are classified as having recovered from the disease.

The Ministry of Health’s report is based on records compiled by the state Health Secretariats and submitted to the portfolio for consolidation.

Covid-19 in the states

São Paulo reached a cumulative 1,103,582 infections. The other states with the highest number of cases in the country are Minas Gerais (353,311), and Bahia (349,711). Acre records the lowest number of cases (30,545), followed by Amapá (51,523), and Roraima (56,469).

São Paulo also leads in the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 complications, with 39,007 fatalities. Rio de Janeiro (20,376) and Ceará (9,325) come next. The states with fewest deaths are Acre (691), Roraima (692), and Amapá (744).
