Brazil Again Records Over One Thousand Daily Deaths from Covid-19 (December 17th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has again recorded over one thousand daily deaths from Covid-19: 1,054 – the highest daily record in three months, since September 15th.

The figure is also related to the fact that the state of São Paulo disclosed on Thursday, December 17th, both Wednesday and Thursday’s accumulated records, after experiencing problems to access the Ministry of Health’s system.

The government of São Paulo failed to disclose this Wednesday’s data and ascribed the issue to a failure in the Ministry of Health’s system, which denies any technical hindrance. With Thursday’s figures, the total number of Covid victims in the country has reached 184,876.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, 68,832 cases were confirmed. A total of 7,111,527 people have been infected.

The rolling daily average of cases is rising by 10%, within the stability range, but nevertheless increasing. On Thursday, there were 46,855 new cases per day, the highest average since the media outlet consortium began releasing data in July.

The average death rate is still high. There are an average of 725 daily deaths, the highest since September 21st and an increase of 27% over the average of two weeks ago.

Registering an increase in the rolling death average on Thursday were the Federal District and 16 states: Acre, Amapá, Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, and the whole South region: Paraná, Santa Catarina, which was stable, and Rio Grande do Sul.

On Thursday, Rio Grande do Norte and Paraná recorded the highest growths. Rio Grande do Norte has an average of ten daily deaths. In Paraná, there are 74 on average per day.

There are eight states in stability: Amazonas, Roraima, Rondônia, Tocantins, Ceará and Pernambuco, Goiás and São Paulo.

And the states with a drop in the death rate are Maranhão and Piauí.
