Workers’ Party President Announces Protests to Address ‘Authoritarian Escalation’

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Workers’ Party (PT) President Gleisi Hoffmann posted on her Twitter that protests “for democracy and the rights of the people” will be promoted as a way to counter what she classified as “an authoritarian escalation of the Bolsonaro government”.

Scheduled for March 8th, 14th and 18th, the protests against the government are expected to contest the March 15th demonstration called by Bolsonarists in defense of the government and to criticize the National Congress.

According to Gleisi, the protests against the current administration “will be an opportunity to express dissatisfaction”.

The deputy also said that a meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 3rd, between opposition parties, the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), the Brazilian Press Association (ABI), the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) and “social organizations and political leaders of other parties that have a commitment to democracy”.
