With 19 unicorns, Brazil ranks 10th in the global ranking

Brazil dropped one position in the ranking of countries with more unicorn startups in 2023. It is now in 10th place with 19 innovation companies valued at over US$ 1 billion.

Brands such as iFood, Quinto Andar, and Loft are among the country’s representatives. Please read all of them at the end of the report.

South Korea now ranks 9th, with 22 unicorns.

The list is topped by the United States, which has 712 companies. China (248) and India (85) come next.

The numbers are from a Tipalti survey based on Crunchbase data.

There are 1,431 active unicorns worldwide. The survey says 308 of them entered the category in 2022, about 22% of listed companies.

“There are many companies worldwide that are very close to making the unicorn list,” says Tipalti. Here is the global ranking:

Thirty-eight companies ceased to be unicorns in 2023. Most of them (13) came from the US.

 

Only four startups are considered hectocorns (with a higher value of US$100 billion and above).

They are also the most valuable innovation companies in the world. Read which ones they are:

  • Byte Dance – $180 bi. Chinese internet technology company; created the social network Tik Tok;
  • Ant Group – US$ 150 bi-fintech from China;
  • Space X – US$ 125 bi, US space technology company owned by billionaire Elon Musk;
  • Shein – US$ 100 bi, a Chinese online fashion store; known for its lower prices.

It was Ant Group’s debut among the hectocorns. Space X and Shein dropped one position in 2023.

Here are the 19 Brazilian unicorns:

iFood – delivery service;
Quinto Andar – real estate rental and sale;
C6 Bank – digital bank;
Creditas – online loan;
Nuvemshop – online store creation;
Wildlife Studios – developing electronic games;
Loft – selling and buying real estate;
Unico – the creation of digital identity;
CloudWalk – virtual payment system;
Loggi – parcel delivery;
Olist – uncomplicated digital markets;
Dock – technology for means of payment;
Neon – digital bank account;
Mobile -investment in technology businesses;
Ebanx – payment platform;
MadeiraMadeira – online retailer;
CargoX – road cargo transportation;
2TM – crypto-active ecosystem;
Facily – shopping platform.
