Truck and bus crash leaves at least eight dead in Brazil

At least eight people were killed and ten others injured in a collision this Sunday between a passenger bus and a truck on a highway in the state of Mato Grosso, western Brazil.

According to a spokesman for the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the two vehicles collided head-on in the afternoon on federal highway BR-174, near the municipality of Cáceres, 250 kilometers from Cuiabá, the capital of the state of Mato Grosso.

The bus had left Rio Branco, the state of Acre, in the extreme west of Brazil, and was heading for the central state of Goiás.

According to the local press, firefighters indicated that the accident occurred after the truck driver made a wrongly timed maneuver when he crossed the lane.

The police spokesman indicated that the bus had 39 passengers on board. The injured were taken to the regional hospital of Cáceres.
