São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport already has 25 canceled flights due to pro-Bolsonaro uprising

The blockades made by truck drivers on the highway Helio Smidt, in Guarulhos, which provides access to São Paulo International Airport, caused 13 cancellations of flights this morning (Nov. 1).

Yesterday (Oct. 31), there were 12 cancellations.

In São Paulo, truck drivers are blocking stretches of Castello Branco, Regis Bittencourt, and Marginal Tietê as part of a countrywide pro-Bolsonaro uprising.

Following the reported victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the second round of the presidential election, to which Jair Bolsonaro has not conceded, protesters began blockades in various parts of the country on Sunday evening (Oct. 30).

Federal Supreme Court (STF) Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, ordered yesterday (Oct. 31) the complete clearing of federal highways that had registered truck driver strikes.

The federal police (PRF) and the state’s military police must comply with the order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

For Moraes, the strikes “distort the constitutional right of assembly.

“The facts clearly show a scenario in which the abuse and illegal and criminal distortion in exercising the constitutional right of assembly has a disproportionate and intolerable impact on the rest of society.”

“We depend on the full functioning of the chains of distribution of products and services for the maintenance of the most important and fundamental aspects of social life,” Moraes said.

Moraes responded to a request from the National Transport Confederation and the deputy attorney general for elections. None of the entities linked to truck driver movements declare themselves in favor of or adhering to the protest.
