São Paulo Stock Exchange ends 2022 with a 4.69 percent rise

The main index of the São Paulo Stock Exchange, Ibovespa, ended 2022 at 109,725 points, with a 4.69 percent growth.

This year’s rise recovered part of the 11.93 percent decline it suffered in 2021 when the index ended at 104,822 points.

Despite the increase, the Ibovespa index remains far from the 119,017 points recorded at the end of 2020.

During the year, the highest Ibovespa level was on April 1, when it reached 121,570 points, while the lowest was on July 14, when it was 96,121 points.

The Brazilian presidential elections, the crisis in Ukraine, and the interest rate hike in the United States for the first time since 2018 were the main factors that affected the behavior of the São Paulo stock exchange.

For its part, the Brazilian real ended 2022 with an appreciation of 5.32 percent against the dollar and ended quoted at 5.28 reais per dollar.
