Senate President to Assume Brazil Presidency During Officials’ Trips Abroad

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, is expected to take over the presidency of Brazil from Wednesday, October 23rd to Friday 25th. He will take office due to a combination of travel abroad by President Bolsonaro and those officials in the presidential line of succession.

Bolsonaro himself is traveling to Asia and the Middle East until October 31st. The vice president, General Hamilton Mourão, will be in Peru from the 23rd to the 25th and the next in line, Chamber President Rodrigo Maia, will be working on appointments in England and Ireland.

Mourão said on Monday, October 21st, that he will go to Peru to sign a vessel agreement with the Peruvian Navy.

Before taking office, Alcolumbre may preside over the Senate’s second round vote on the welfare reform on the agenda. According to Mourão, the Senate is expected to vote on the text today, October 22nd.
