PT Candidate Fernando Haddad Would Beat Bolsonaro if Elections Were Today

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – If the second round of presidential elections were held today, Fernando Haddad would be elected with 42 percent of the total votes, compared to 36 percent for Jair Bolsonaro, according to a Datafolha survey released today, September 2nd. Another 18 percent would vote blank or void and 4 percent could not answer.

In the second round of last year’s presidential race, on October 28th, Bolsonaro achieved 55.13 percent of valid votes (excluding blank, void and undecided), whereas Haddad obtained 44.87 percent.

Currently, Bolsonaro’s disapproval rate exceeds his approval. After eight months in office, the percentage of those who do not approve of his administration has increased from 33 percent in the survey conducted in July, to 38 percent in August. A total of 2,878 people aged 16 and over were interviewed in 175 municipalities.

Bolsonaro’s approval rate fell from 33 percent in July to 29 percent now.
