Poll shows majority of Brazilian voters prefer Lula’s government to Bolsonaro’s
According to a recent survey conducted by PoderData from June 25 to 27, 51% of Brazilian voters now consider the administration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, left) better than that of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right).
This marks a 5 percentage point increase from the previous survey conducted in April.
In contrast, 47% of respondents view Lula’s government as the same or worse than the previous administration.
This includes those who consider Lula’s government to be the same (9%) or worse (38%) than his predecessor’s.
The survey reflects the expectations of voters at the beginning of Lula’s third term.
In January, when asked about their beliefs regarding the PT administration compared to Bolsonaro’s government, 51% of Brazilian voters expressed that they believed Lula would do a better job, while 33% expected a worse government, and 9% expected no significant change.
The survey, conducted by PoderData, collected data through phone calls to both cell phones and landlines.
It involved 2,500 interviews in 262 cities across all 27 states of Brazil. The margin of error for the survey is 2 percentage points, with a confidence interval of 95%.
The data stratification revealed that the youngest respondents (59%), Catholics (59%), and those with up to an elementary school education (64%) were more likely to have a positive evaluation of the PT’s administration compared to Bolsonaro’s.
On the other hand, those between 25 and 44 years old (49%) and residents of the Midwest region (61%) had more negative expectations regarding Lula’s government.
It is important to note that PoderData uses rigorous methodologies, including tens of thousands of phone calls, to reach a representative sample of the population.
