Former Presidential Candidate Ciro Gomes Reacts to Carlos Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A defeated presidential candidate in 2018, Ciro Gomes reacted to a tease from Rio de Janeiro city councilor Carlos Bolsonaro on Twitter, calling him a “dazzled dragonfly” and writing that the family of the councilor, who is the son of President Jair Bolsonaro, includes “corrupt scoundrels, militiamen, and embezzlers”.

“Dazzled Dragonfly. Here in Ceará we are and will be the worst nightmare of your family of scoundrels, militiamen, and corrupt embezzlers,” wrote Ciro on Sunday, February 23rd. “How much money did (Fabrício) Queiroz (former advisor to Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, Carlos’ brother) deposit in your father’s wife’s account, the biggest scoundrel?”

The post was a reaction to a tweet by Carlos published on Saturday, 22nd, in which he comments on a video by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues.

In the video published by Carlos, Randolfe mentions Ciro in expressing support for the leftist’s brother and his Senate colleague Cid Gomes, who was shot trying to break through a blockade of rioting police officers in Sobral on a backhoe on Wednesday, 19th – he was discharged from hospital on Sunday.

“‘Let’s go, Ciro. I’m already heading to Sobral, wait for me there!”, says Randolfe in the video, on top of a tractor. “(Randolfe) wants to run over children and women with the nervous nose and lip-licking people of Ceará,” commented Carlos.

Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro also commented on his brother’s post. He vows to sign a petition to denounce Cid for attempted murder. Eduardo also advised that he is “studying” proceedings against Ciro’s brother and even wants to determine if he was “qualified to drive a tractor”.

Randolfe: ‘Video was totally misrepresented’

Raldolfe commented on the video’s repercussions. According to him, the video was recorded in a “carnival atmosphere” and in support of Cid. “The situation in Ceará is critical and merits extra attention. At no point did I encourage violence or disrespect for institutions. Police officers deserve respect, militiamen deserve jail. Strikes have my support, but not armed mutiny, that’s a crime.”
