“No Change,” Says Bolsonaro on Eduardo’s Appointment as Ambassador to U.S.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Friday, August 18th, that there is no change on the appointment of the federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro to the position of Ambassador of Brazil to the United States.

“For now, there is no change,” said the president.

Bolsonaro’s efforts to place Eduardo at the head of the PSL in the Chamber of Deputies left the chance for his son to take over the embassy, in limbo.

The president appointed his son to the post three months ago, but so far the announcement has not been formally made. To be confirmed ambassador, Eduardo needs to undergo evaluation and Senate endorsement.

As there is no certainty in the Planalto of his support among senators, the position in the Chamber would be an “honorable way out,” according to Bolsonaro’s aides.

Invitations

The president said he has already received several invitations from parties to leave the PSL. “I’m kind of cute, right. So, there have been several invitations,” he said.

Asked if any left-wing party had invited him, Bolsonaro ironized: “Are you calling the left crazy or me?”

Bolsonaro welcomed the president of PSD, Gilberto Kassab (SP), on Friday morning, October 18th. According to Bolsonaro, it was a courtesy visit.

“I speak to everyone. Some I invite, others want to come. It is the role of a president. I want peace so I can govern. We have huge problems in Brazil to solve,” said Bolsonaro.
