Moro Voted Among “Top 50 People of the Decade” by Financial Times

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Sérgio Moro, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, was selected by the Financial Times as one of the top 50 people who marked the decade.

The list, compiled from the British newspaper’s network of reporters, featured “individuals who have proved capable of wrenching the consolidated power of institutions”.

He was the only Brazilian chosen.

“Sérgio Moro led an anti-corruption investigation that shook the political structures of Latin America,” the newspaper writes.

The publication says investigations into bribery payments involving the construction company Odebrecht led to the arrest of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, sentenced to eight years and ten months in prison for passive corruption and money laundering in the Guarujá triplex case.

The newspaper also mentions the involvement in corruption scandals of four former Peruvian presidents.

The newspaper further recalls the appointment as a minister in President Jair Bolsonaro’s government.

“A move towards politics that raised questions regarding his independence as a judge, but which could place him on the path to running for president“.
