Lula’s Girlfriend Says Freedom “Will not Come Signed by Those who Defrauded Justice”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Operation Lava Jato prosecutors have requested that Lula be sent to the semi-open regime, but the defense is seeking the suspicion of Sérgio Moro, who sentenced Lula with no evidence to disqualify him from the election.

Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s girlfriend, sociologist Rosângela da Silva, wrote on Twitter early on Saturday afternoon that “Freedom will come to us but it will not come signed by those who have defrauded Justice!”.

It is a reference to the Operation Lava Jato’s prosecutors who have requested that Lula be sent to the work-release regime since he has already served one-sixth of the sentence under the Triplex lawsuit in Guarujá (SP).

Lula’s defense has insisted that he will not accept the work-release regime. Both lawyers and the former president argue that he should only leave to be free on account of the conviction without evidence.

When lodging the denunciation in September 2016, prosecutor Henrique Pozzobon acknowledged that there had been no “full evidence” that Lula was the apartment’s owner.

According to the indictment, the property would have been an OAS kickback, but the former president had never slept in or had the key to the apartment.
