Ex-president Lula da Silva leads 2022 presidential intentions in Brazil by 14.7 points – poll

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) leads the race for Brazil’s presidency in 2022 with 41.3% of voting intentions, followed by President Jair Bolsonaro, with 26.6%, according to a CNT/MDA survey released on Monday (05).

In sequence are former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT) and former minister Sergio Moro (no party), with 5.9% of voting intentions each. The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), has 2.1%, followed by former health minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta (DEM), with 1.8%.

The survey was conducted from July 1-3 with 2,002 respondents and had a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points plus or minus. Blank or void votes add up to 8.6%, and undecided voters, 7.8%.

Since the general elections (President, Vice President, and the National Congress) are not until October 2, 2022, no hasty conclusions should be drawn. A great deal can still happen in 15 months.

Elections for 512 federal Chamber of Deputies posts, 27 Senators (1 for each state), 27  state Governors and deputy Governors, plus all state legislative assemblies, will be held on the same date.
