Lula da Silva proposes the creation of a forum of countries for peace between Russia and Ukraine

During the visit of German Chancellor Scholz to Brasilia, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed the creation of a forum of countries to promote dialogue and the search for peace between Russia and Ukraine.

At a joint press conference at the Planalto Palace, Lula said it is necessary to create a “club of people who want to achieve peace on the planet.”

“A club of countries that have to sit at the table with Russia and Ukraine and find peace because the world needs peace. We are in the 21st century, and we are in a war that we don’t even know why it happened,” he emphasized.

“It is necessary to build a group that has sufficient strength, and that is respected at the negotiating table, and that talks with both”, he affirmed.

The Brazilian leader was even willing, if necessary, to talk personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Asked whether Brazil would be interested in selling ammunition and armaments to Germany for delivery to Ukraine, Lula was categorical, stating that “Brazil made the decision not to pass on the ammunition”.

“Brazil has no interest in passing ammunition to be used in the war between Ukraine and Russia. Brazil does not want even indirect participation because it is necessary for someone to defend peace. After all, the word peace is being very little used,” he stressed.

Scholz said that the conflict in Ukraine was one of the topics of the talks with the Brazilian president.

The German Chancellor also said he was very excited to be in Brasilia given the disturbances that occurred a few weeks ago, offering Lula and Brazil his “full solidarity” and expressing his intention to “open a new chapter in the relations” between the two countries.
