RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson plans to invest R$1 billion (US$250 million) to expand its plant in São José dos Campos (SP), developing a new assembly line exclusively dedicated to 5G technology products that will be supplied to all of Latin America.

The operation should intensify the competition with Nokia and Huawei, which also have plants in the State of São Paulo and are in the race to lead the installation of the 5G technology in Brazil.

“We currently export 40 percent of what is assembled in our plant in Brazil to Latin American countries and with 5G it will be no different”.

“This assembly line will serve Brazil and all Latin American countries”, said Eduardo Ricotta, leader of Ericsson’s operations in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay, after meeting with President Jair Bolsonaro on Monday, November 25th.
